Promises, Promises

We receive and hand out promises to others all the time. We say we’re going to do something or be somewhere with the greatest intentions, yet never seem to get to it. This all comes with unintended consequences. We get used to disappointments and therefore stop believing or expecting “the promise” given to actually happen. We end up spending years in bondage to things provided to and for us.
The Children of Israel had spent 130 years in bondage to Egypt (a depiction of the world.) A deliverer was sent who gave them a promise of a land of their own.

Joshua 1:2-9 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NKJ)

“The promise” was God’s part. But they had a role to play. THEY, had to go and possess it. Why was that such a difficult task in their eyes? Because it was already occupied by other people and some of those were giants.
God knew there where occupants and giants in the land. Giants are bullies who take what they can from people who precise them as being “stronger.” The real reason the Children of Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness was because of a poor self-image given to them by the 10 spies with a fearful negative report.

Numbers 13:33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (NKJ)

That is how they saw themselves, but it was NOT how the inhabitances of “the Promised Land” saw them.

Joshua 2:9-11 and Rahab said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. (NKJ)

Joshua 5:1 So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel. (NKJ)

Our enemy has already been defeated and God is waiting on YOU to possess the territory HE has given you.

Colossians 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He (Jesus) made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it (the cross). (NKJ)

Hebrews 10:12-13 But this Man (Jesus), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. (NKJ)

Just as faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom 10:17) so too does fear come by listening to the 10 Spies Network. All you need do to enforce Jesus’ victory over Satan is to recognize the power and authority HE has given to YOU.

Ephesians 1:17-22  …give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
