What Belongs To You

Jesus told us that the thief comes to kill, steal, and destroy. The emery’s desire is to take from you what Jesus has already paid for—your inheritance. Fortunately, Jesus went on the tell us that He came to give us abundant life. But it is up to us NOT to allow the thief to take from us what is rightfully ours.

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (NKJ) (May = hold; possess—the root word for possession.)

There are some battles we must give to the Lord. Yet, there are other battles we are going to have to fight. Jesus has already done His part of the battle upon the cross and through the resurrection.

Colossians 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He (Jesus) made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (NKJ)

We must enforce that victory by refusing to believe the lies of the thief. What are the lies the thief tells us? His first lie usually is attacking our identity. If you don’t know (or believe) Who’s you are and what has already been given to you, then you will live a defeated life contrary to what Jesus gave you.

The word “reconciled” used here is an accounting term meaning both parties agree. We must agree with what God says in His Word about us instead of agreeing with what the thief says about us.

NLT v21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

You are a child of God.

Through faith in Christ, you are adopted into God’s family. We don’t have a problem believing that Jesus is Lord, the King of kings, the Son of God, the Prince of Peace, the heir to the throne of God and is seated at God’s own right hand. But can you see yourself as a co-benefactor with Him?

Romans 8:16-17a The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, (NKJ)

This “joint heir” does not point to proportion but to participation: each recipient enjoys the whole blessing because the inheritance is Christ Himself. This changes your identity from slavery to sonship, giving you access to God’s presence and promises.

Galatians 4:7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (NKJ)

Your inheritance is eternal and secure, imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you. It is not subject to decay, corruption, or fading, unlike earthly possessions.

If the world didn’t give it to you, then the world can’t take it away. Your inheritance is both present and future.

John 16:33 Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (NKJ)

We overcome by refusing to believe the lies of the thief.

Mark 3:27 No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house. (NKJ)

Don’t be bound by the lies of this world. You have what Jesus has obtained. You already “possess” this inheritance because you have been adopted, sealed by the Spirit, and granted spiritual blessings now.

Now, Live as an heir, a conquer, an overcomer because He is! It belongs to you because you belong to Him.
